Crime victim advocates and law enforcement will receive more than $32 million Oct. 1. Lexington County Sheriff

Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon’s department, 11th Circuit Soliciter Rick Hubbard’s office, the Dickerson Children’s Advocacy Center, Mothers Against Drunk Driving and Sistercare will share in almost $2 million.

Also state agencies such as the Department of Social Services, State Law Enforcement Division, Highway Patrol and Attorney General Alan Wilson’s office will be included.

Much of the money comes from the federal fines and penalties, not taxes.

“These state and local agencies and non-profit groups do so much to help people who are going through traumatic circumstances,” Attorney General Alan Wilson said.

For example, Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands is receiving more than $1.2 million to aid sexual assault victims.

“The Attorney General’s Office is honored to work with hundreds of caring, dedicated professionals who help victims of crime every day”, said Barbara Jean Nelson, director of the Crime Victim Services Division.
