5 Lexington County schools finish top-10 in Carlisle Cup standings

Posted

The final Carlisle Cup scores have been tallied, and five Lexington County teams finished inside their classification’s top-10.

Lexington, River Bluff, Chapin, Gray Collegiate and Batesburg-Leesville made the cut after earning enough points. The points are allocated based on overall athletic excellence by a school in its classification. Performances in 24 sporting events are taken into account.

Chapin placed the highest overall, finishing second in the 5A Division II standings. The Eagles were boosted by their state championships in baseball, girls soccer and cheerleading.

The school had a few individual athletes finish highly in track, swimming and wrestling competitions as well.

Chapin was just 110 points shy of tying Fort Mill for first place.

Lexington and River Bluff finished third and fourth in the 5A Division I standings.

The Wildcats and Gators also have state championships to their name from last season.

Lexington won the 5A Division I cheerleading championship in the fall. The Wildcats girls gold team also won a state championship, claiming title No. 15 for the program.

River Bluff won the boys gold championship, going back-to-back after winning in 2025 as well.

The Gators and Wildcats also had athletes place highly at individual events.

Gray Collegiate placed fifth in its final year of 4A play. The War Eagles will be in the lone 5A classification next season, following realignment.

The school won its third straight softball championship, completing its first undefeated season in the process. Gray also had a few deep runs in other sports that came up just short of a title.

Batesburg-Leesville is the only local team that made the cut without winning a team state title during the 2025-26 season. The Panthers made deep runs in multiple sports, but fell short in the end.

The school has athletes win individual titles that also helped boost their scores.
