5 tips to make your business more millennial friendly

Posted

By 2025, millennials will make up 75% of workers.

Laura Gayle of Better -SMB /Marketing suggests ways to give your business’s work area a facelift and a positive culture shift:

“You have to create a company culture that caters to these tech savvy individuals by learning what makes them tick,” she said.

Here are 5 tips:

1. Move your offices close to restaurants and other amenities like downtown Lexington, West Columbia, Cayce. By making it easy to walk to work in minutes, you attract younger folks.

We moved our business offices to Lexington’s downtown near the Icehouse Amphitheatre. After work you can get a bite to eat and see a performance in town.

2. Get rid of cubicles. Update your office to invite collaboration without cubicle walls. Choose oversized shared desks. Group teams together. Strategically place bar-height tables and stools.

3. Update your décor. Ask a local decorator to help with some new interior design trends and work environments that millennials will like– industrial looks, reclaimed wood and sliding doors. A fresh coat of paint works well, too.

4. Create breakout areas.

These are open spaces separate from the work area where employees can relax, eat lunch, take a break and meet informally.

Transform areas by adding comfortable sectional sofas or picnic tables. Bring in bright colors and textures – light blue, yellow and pale shades of green ease stress.

5. Update break rooms.

The way to millennials’ hearts is through their stomachs. Create a café like area. If your budget is tight, consider a well-stocked coffee bar and a selection of healthy food options like fruit, granola bars and instant oatmeal.
