$6,000 raised for Gilbert boy

Posted

Mark Juergens Jr. is a 6th grade student at Gilbert Middle School.

He was diagnosed with nodular sclerosis Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in October 2020.

The town of Gilbert organized a virtual 5K to raise money toward his medical treatments.

From Feb. 13-15, runners ran or walked 5 or 10 kilometers. They logged the mileage on the Run Hard Running Club app.

The entry fee was $25 and all participants received a t-shirt.

The goal was to reach 500 miles. While not all miles are accounted for at the moment, they were able to raise about $6,000 and all proceeds went to the Juergens family.

The Chronicle’s Jewel Hull and Cole Stilwell participated in the virtual 5k last weekend.

They stuck it out through the rain and cold for a good cause.

“It was an amazing experience to support a great cause, and this helped me with my Tachycardia,” said Hull.

If you would like to still help the Juergens family on this journey and submit a donation, email Jessica Calhoun at jcalhoun@lexington1.net.

There will also be a blood drive in Gilbert at Centerville Elementary School Friday, Mar. 12 from 10 am-3 pm. To sign up online, visit www.redcrossblood.org and use sponsor code: MightyMark.
