Do you double-check that your car is locked before bedtime?

You should.

Around 85% of all car break-ins reported in Lexington County are vehicles left unlocked and unattended.

Reduce the changes of a car break-in by removing your valuables and locking your vehicle doors.

Thieves look for easy opportunities. Make them “work” for their loot, and they’re apt to move on to an easier target.

They’re usually looking for a small payoff. By making your car a harder target for these criminals, you make it a less desirable option.

Remove your valuables, including guns, purses and electronics. Your console or glove box is not a mobile gun safe. Take the set of spare keys out of your vehicle, then roll up the windows and lock your doors.

If you’re prone to forgetting to lock your vehicle, set reminders for yourself to check it before bed. Set an alarm or write a sticky note. Make it an aspect of your nightly routine and you’ll never have to wonder if you left your vehicle unlocked.

Help us crack down on vehicle break-ins by doing your part: please, lock your doors.
