Airport baseball, Lexington soccer stars win Athlete of the Week

Posted

Action continued on the field for all spring sports teams in Lexington County last week.

From the baseball diamond to the soccer pitch, many teams and athletes had exceptional outings and earned more wins as the postseason quickly approaches..

This week’s Athlete of the Week winners represent Airport and Lexington. Each athlete put up big numbers in key region games to help lead their team to victory and better their position in the standings.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek. To submit a nominee for consideration, email a photo and short bio to sports@lexingtonchronicle.com.

Hunter Epps

Airport baseball star Hunter Epps helped the Eagles win a two-game series over Gray Collegiate last week.

The wins helped keep the Eagles on pace with Gilbert in their race for first place. Epps’ contributions were felt on the mound, behind the plate and in the field.

In game one, Epps went 3-4 from the plate for two RBIs and two runs. He also pitched all seven innings during the game and had a masterclass, recording six strikeouts, zero runs allowed and one walk conceded.

Epps lined up at shortstop in game two and had another efficient game from the batter’s box, going 2-3 and scoring one run.

As Airport tries to close in on the region championship these next few weeks, the team will continue to look towards Epps to make plays in clutch moments.

Adriana Dunat

Lexington’s Adriana Dunat helped Lexington get back in the win column after two stellar outings versus Dutch Fork and White Knoll.

The junior accounted for six goals and two assists between the two games. Against the Silver Foxes, she scored two goals and found a teammate for another score. She followed that up with a four-goal, one-assist performance against White Knoll.

Dunat is now up to 18 goals this season, leading all Wildcats players. Lexington enters this week second in the region standings. More high-scoring games from Dunat can help the team finish strong and go into the playoffs with momentum.
