After stellar performances on the football field and tennis courts, Irmo’s Jaden Allen-Hendrix was voted Male Athlete of the Week and Gilbert’s Ashleigh Juergens was named Female Athlete of the Week.
The nominees this week for Male Athlete of the Week along with Allen-Hendrix were River Bluff running back Toriaun Leaphart and Dutch Fork running back Maurice Anderson. The nominees for Female Athlete of the Week were Juergens, Gilbert middle hitter Mackenzie Head and Lexington outside hitter Kendall Vinson. Voting for Athlete of the Week runs Saturday-Monday, 10 a.m.-10 a.m. each week at lexingotnchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek.
Irmo running back Allen Hendrix ran for an astonishing four touchdowns during Irmo’s big 35-21 win over previously undefeated Hartsville. Allen-Hendrix has been a touchdown machine for Irmo this year and has helped lead them to an undefeated record and 4A state title contention.
Gilbert tennis standout Ashleigh Juergens stood out last week and dominated her opponents to continue a red-hot start to her season. She defeated her opponent from Dreher last week in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) and has improved her personal record to 5-0 this season. She’s also contributed well to Gilbert’s 5-1 team record and on average, beats her opponents in each set 6-2.
