American Legion playoffs are almost set

Posted

As the Lexington Chronicle hit newsstands throughout Lexington County, the fates of the 3 local American Legion teams were still to be determined.

Entering this past Monday, both Lexington Post 7 and West Columbia Post 79 had opportunities to improve their League III standing. Lexington finished with 2 games against frontrunner Camden Post 17, needing a sweep to clinch the league title.

If Lexington wins both games, it would open the Bestof-5 American Legion state playoffs against Orange-burg. A 2nd place finish would mean a matchup against playoff nemesis Sumter.

Meanwhile, Post 79 faced Aiken Post 26 Monday at presstime in a contest to determine the final playoff spot out of the league. The winner would then open a Bestof-3 series against Manning-Santee.

In League IV, defending state champion Chapin/ Newberry Post 193/24 closed the season against frontrunner Fort Mill. Based on the standings, Chapin/ Newberry would have a coin flip with Easley to determine homefield advantage in a Best-of-3 series starting Monday.
