The SCHSL Executive Committee has voted to make Amy Boozer the league’s interim commissioner.
Boozer will replace long-time commissioner Jerome Singleton, who is retiring. Boozer will serve as the interim commissioner while the league searches for its next full-time leader.
“Amy’s leadership experience, commitment to educational athletics, and deep understanding of the League make her exceptionally qualified to guide the SCHSL during this transition,” said Executive Committee President Dr. Adam Lanford. “We are confident in her ability to provide stability and continued service to our member schools, coaches, and student-athletes.”
The 2026-27 Executive Committee will begin a search for a permanent Commissioner on July 1, 2026, at the start of the league’s new fiscal year.
Singleton spent over 30 years working for the state’s largest high school sports league. His final few years were marred by conflict with South Carolina lawmakers over the direction of the league and athletics in the state.
Lawmakers tabled a motion to disband the league last year, and in response, requested massive changes be made to the league’s status quo.
In March, it was announced Singleton would retire no later than July 2027. He made the decision to go now.
Earlier this month, the executive committee got together and unanimously voted Boozer to take on Singleton’s role in the interim.
Boozer has been with the high school league since 2016, serving as an associate commissioner. Before that, she was at Newberry High School, where she led the Bulldogs’ volleyball and softball programs while also serving as chair of the physical education department.
At Newberry, Boozer began serving as executive secretary of the South Carolina Coaches Association of Women’s Sports (CAWS). She still holds that role today.
As the interim commissioner, Boozer will be responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and governance of league operations.
Details regarding the search for the league’s next commissioner will be announced by the 2026-27 Executive Committee following the start of the new league year on July 1.
