A West Columbia attorney has made military history.

Swansea native Stanley Myers Sr., managing partner at the Moore Bradley Myers law firm, has become the 1st African-American Military Judge for the SC Army National Guard.

As a judge he presides over trials, interprets military law, assesses the presentation of evidence and controls hearings and trials.

“To hold this role for the military is a dream come true and something I have been working for since becoming a JAG Officer,” Lt. Col. Myers said.

Being first is nothing new to Myers. A 1998 graduate of The Citadel, Myers set several records as a 4-year starting quarterback for the Bulldog football team.

In addition, he is the Regional Defense Counsel and supervises young Judge Advocate Generals (JAGs) in the Carolinas, West Virginia, Delaware, and Virginia.

He deployed to Afghanistan from 2007 to 08 with the 218th Infantry Brigade.

Myers practices criminal defense, personal injury and workers compensation law.

He founded the Swansea Mentoring Program and is a member of The Citadel Board of Visitors. He and his wife have 2 children.
