Appreciation for 1st responders, public works

To show their appreciation to 1st responders and public works employees, West Columbia held appreciation luncheons for:

• Police and fire personnel at Stone River Dec. 4.

Westover Acres Community Crimewatch Club, Quail Ridge Homeowners Association, Guignard Neighborhood Association, and Saluda Gardens Neighborhood Association sponsored it.

• Departments of Sanitation, Parks and Beautification, Maintenance, Water and Sewer and Utilities personnel Dec. 7 at the B Avenue Community Center with donations from Westover Acres Community Crime Watch Club, Saluda Chase Homeowners Association, Westover Acres Homeowners Association, and the Guignard Neighborhood Association.

“It’s a way to say ‘thank you’ for all that they do for our community,’” said Madison Duncan, who helped organize the events.

U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson spoke to the 1st reponders group and invited them to Washington DC for a visit. Wilson’s son, SC Attorney General Alan Wilson, offered the pre-meal prayer, giving thanks for the sacrifices of police, fire and emergency personnel.

Police Chief Dennis Tyndall said he was grateful for the effort that was made to honor them.

State Sen. Nikki Setzler helped serve food.

Tem Miles, West Columbia Mayor pro tem, and council members Erin Porter and Mike Green were on hand.
