On Election Day, 68.54% of Lexington County voters approved a $240 million bond referendum for the Lexington-Richland School District Five.

The approval will fund a variety of projects, including school renovations, classroom additions, new constructions and more.

As part of the referendum, rezoning will begin in the 2026-27 school year for certain areas in the district.

Here are the schools being rezoned:

  • The Academy for Success will relocate to the current Dutch Fork Elementary School, which will be renovated into the RichLex Education Center. This will provide additional space for students at Spring Hill High School.
  • Chapin Elementary, Piney Wood Elementary and Lake Murray Elementary will become kindergarten through fifth grade schools, with new wings added to increase safety and growth.
  • Chapin Middle School will be redistricted as Spring Hill Middle, serving students in grades sixth through eighth. Chapin Intermediate will be renamed Chapin Middle and will serve students from Chapin Elementary and Piney Woods Elementary.
  • A new elementary school will be built to replace the current Dutch Fork Elementary, which will move to a different location.
  • Students from H.E. Corley Elementary will attend CrossRoads Intermediate and, depending on their address, will attend either Irmo High or Dutch Fork High.

New facilities and upgrades that will be made include:

  • A fine arts center will be built at Chapin High, including a theatrical design curriculum.
  • Lake Murray and Chapin Elementary will receive new wings, replacing existing portable classrooms.
  • A new Digital Solutions and Artificial Intelligence Lab will be added at Dutch Fork High to enhance STEM education and career readiness.
  • Irmo High will build a small business incubator and student center, incorporating entrepreneurship courses into the curriculum.
  • A new administrative and professional development center will be built at the district office to allow teacher collaboration and host events.
  • A construction and infrastructure development lab will be created at the Center for Advanced Technical Studies, with covered practice pavilions planned for Chapin High, Dutch Fork and Irmo High, if funding allows.

Additionally, secure entrance upgrades will be added to 12 schools in the district including Ballentine Elementary, Chapin Elementary, Dutch Fork Elementary, H.E. Corley Elementary, Chapin Intermediate, CrossRoads Intermediate, Chapin Middle, Irmo Middle, Irmo High, Spring Hill High, Adult Education and Academy For Success.

All schools will receive enhanced security camera systems.

Renovations and repairs such as HVAC replacements, outdoor recreation are improvements, ADA compliance updates, restroom renovations and repairs to electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems will take place at multiple schools. These include CrossRoads Intermediate, Dutch Fork High, Dutch Fork Middle, Harbison West Elementary, Irmo High, Irmo Middle, Nursery Road Elementary and Seven Oaks Elementary.
