You can’t help but notice the beauty of Bradford pears in full bloom in Lexington County.

But many homeowners do not realize that their trees can be responsible for the spread of an invasive cultivar, callery pear, to adjoining woodlands and fields.

Clemson Extension Forestry and Wildlife Agent Janet Steele said they have partnered with town officials in a Bradford Pear Bounty to encourage homeowners to remove Bradford pears from their yards and replace them with native tree species.
