Did you awaken last weekend to a feel of fall and football? It was definitely in the air. Lower temperatures made it perfect for college football.

The Gamecocks welcomed new coach Shane Beamer with a 46-0 win over Eastern Illinois. Top teams Clemson Tigers’ and UGA Bulldogs’ defenses kept the score low with Georgia winning 10-3. Anne and Dennis Bull report they had a great time and, despite signs posted in stadium, no one was wearing a mask.

Jennifer Wilson says that to the continuing pandemic, Lexington Medical Center is changing its vaccine and testing sites.

The vaccine clinic moved to Brookland Baptist Church at 1066 Sunset Blvd. in West Columbia. The vaccine clinic hours will be Monday – Friday 8 am – 6 pm and Saturdays and Sundays 1 pm – 4 pm. Walk-ins welcome. More at LexMed.com/Covid

The hospital drive-thru testing site will remain at 139 Summerplace Drive in West Columbia Monday – Friday 8 am – 2:30 pm and Saturdays and Sundays 11:30 am – 2:30 pm. You can make an appointment at LexMed.com/CovidTest.

Our schools need a stop to interruption in students’ health and education.

You can reflect on the 20th anniversary of 9/11 at 8 am Saturday at the Columbia Metro Convention Center, 1101 Lincoln St., Columbia. And don’t forget the Tunnel 2 Towers run-walk the day before.

Hundreds of military, 1st responders and others will run from the Convention Center across the Gervais Street bridge, through West Columbia and Cayce, then back across the Blossom Street bridge to the starting point. Proceeds go to the Tunnel 2 Towers Foundation to upgrade and build homes for disabled veterans and 1st responders. The event chaired by our own Dan Hennigan honors the bravery of Stephen Siller, a firefighter who ran from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Center and lost his life in saving others in the 9/11 terrorist attack.

Brig. Gen. Patrick Michaelis, the 52nd commanding general of Fort Jackson, will speak at the Lexington Chamber’s breakfast Tuesday, Sept. 14, 7:30 am, Radius Church. Tickets are $10 and must be purchased in advance. Registration will close tomorrow at 2 pm. Reservations at 803-359-6113.

Lexington Mayor Steve MacDougall says Gibson Pond Park is open. Town employees worked long and hard. The park features a new bridge with fishing piers, a new dock and new picnic shelters.

Our Lexington Live Fall Concert Series begins today at 6:30 pm at our Amphitheater with The Root Doctors. Alsoon 9/16 The Embers, 9/23 Sol Fusion, 9/30 Vinyl Junkies and 10/7 The Catalinas.

Rhonda and Brian Knotts report Timberlake Golf, Restaurant and Bar is accessible by boat. Timberlake provides dining, golf and a relaxing bar open to the public.

Come by boat and they will arrange for a golf cart to take you the short 2-block ride. There is guest boat parking and a dockhand to help you at the marina.

DWs Lakeside Restaurant has a full menu and the bar is comfortable with ample seating. Brunch is served on Sunday. The Grande Bloody Mary has bacon and a fried cheese stick. Rhonda teaches at New Providence Elementary School in Lexington.
