Identity Shift: The Change That Changes Everything is a powerful book.

It gets to the heart of what most people are missing in today’s world. The Charlotte-based author, Dexter Howard, addresses a crisis that is having profound impact on our fulfillment and potential.

Identity is a subject that is talked about in many circles. The problem is scores of both men and women, young and old, are drifting through life confused and lost. From chasing the wrong careers to even gender confusion, a SHIFT is needed as it relates to identity in our culture.

Dexter Howard shares a secret he learned that totally transformed his life. You can feel his passion and excitement as you read through the pages. He wants his readers to experience what he experienced.

Identity Shift is a Christian-based book which encourages the reader to move beyond a Christian experience that is based merely on do’s and don’ts.

He calls believers and non-believers alike to experience a fresh, new relationship with the God who created them to be truly alive!

Howard declares, “God wants to demonstrate His love for you. He wants a living, breathing, intimate relationship with you as His son or daughter.”

He calls people out of a mundane, powerless existence into a miraculously life-giving relationship. The author clarifies that son-ship is not just for males. Rather, it is a position which anyone can gain through their faith in God. The power to become a “son” is given to anyone who believes.

In the 1st section, he deals with the “identity crisis.” Next, he leads the reader into truths that help move them pass the crisis and into their “identity shift.”

Howard powerfully helps you understand that there are 3 stages of son-ship. Each stage builds upon the other. First, as a person accepts God as their Father and Jesus as their Lord, they become aware of the fact that they are “objects” of His affection. God loves us limitlessly. He proved His love by sending Jesus to die for us. He now wants each of us to experience His love by living for Him.

Your 1st revelation as a son or daughter of God is just how much He loves YOU! He loves to love you.

The author offers the challenge that we cannot remain merely babes or objects for Him to love.

The next stage is to become His instruments. This is the place of “usefulness.” We start to love loving Him. We love to talk about him, serve him, and do for Him. He compares this to the age comparable to the teen years. Teenagers start finding their place to serve the family and it is rewarding. Nevertheless, true son-ship doesn’t stop with being an object or serving as an instrument.

The 3rd stage takes us to the place of profound realization of exactly why God created us. He created us to be reflectors. My favorite quote from this book is, “Jesus came to proliferate the DNA of the Father in the earth.”

The true intention of God creating humanity was not to make objects or instruments but true expressions of His image in the earth.

When we grow into this place of son-ship, the author calls this maturation. We grow up and we are like Him!

This likeness leads to glory. There is a glory in son-ship that is like a fire blazing for the world to see. Howard says poignantly, “Sons are flammable!”

Any identity crisis can be overcome through a person embracing who they really are in Christ. As sons and daughters of God we have ultimate potential to walk with His glory and fulfill His purpose for our lives. This book is for anyone who still is struggling with faith, not certain about their identity, and wonders if there is more to live than just religion as they have known it.
