Batesburg-Leesville manufacturing facility to close; over 100 will lose their jobs

Posted

A manufacturing facility in Batesburg-Leesville is closing, leaving 112 people unemployed, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) letter submitted to the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce on June 27.

IG Design Group Americas Inc. and Lion Ribbon Company LLC announced the closure of the facility located at 832 Summerland Ave., citing “business needs” as the reason for the decision.

The last day of operations will be Aug. 26, and all job terminations will be permanent, the letter said.

WARN requires employers with 100 or more employees to provide a 60-day advance notice prior to a closure or mass layoff. This notice gives employees an opportunity to seek employment elsewhere.

Roles affected include associate design engineer, clerks, custodian, electromechanical technicians, machine operators, maintenance coordinators, material handlers, operations consultant, production manager, production supervisor, shift leads, stock clerk, utility workers and technicians.

IG Design Group Americas designs, manufactures and sells a range of products, including crafts and toys. Products are sold in stores and online throughout North and South America, Europe and Australia.

The company currently operates 27 facilities worldwide with its headquarters located in Atlanta, Ga.

Lion Ribbon is a large manufacturer and importer of ribbons, specializing in woven ribbons in North America.
