Be smart about allergies

Allergies occur when the immune system treats a harmless foreign protein as an invader.

The body responds by releasing inflammatory chemicals.

These chemicals recruit other cells and promote more inflammation.

Allergies can be from food, outdoor allergens, plants, medications, insects, animals and mold.

Symptoms include runny nose, itchy eyes, watery eyes, dry coughing.

In severe cases, difficulty breathing and wheezing, loss of consciousness and lightheadedness can occur.

If you experience any severe symptoms and are unaware of current allergies, call 911 or go to your nearest hospital. It could be life-threatening.

I am highly allergic to lots of everyday close contact items, and fall in the severe range.

I have to make sure to use my antihistamine combined inhaler daily, a nightly pill for my lungs, a daily allergy pill, prescription nasal spray and prescribed ear drops to avoid such severe issues.

Being aware of allergens that surround you and your level of severity can help you manage your allergies.

Get an allergy test performed if you are having symptoms.

Then create a daily routine that’s right for you.

You will breathe easier having a proper schedule to manage your allergies.
