Beverage manufacturing company seeks to bring 94 jobs, $99.6M 5-year investment to Lexington County

A Canadian company may open up a facility in Lexington County, bringing 94 jobs and promises of a minimum investment of $99.6 million to Lexington County over the next five years.

This economic development project, formerly known as Project Mirror, could bring Cardiff Products USA LLC to the Saxe Gotha Industrial Park, a county-owned park located off Interstate 77 near the Interstate 26 interchange.

During the Dec. 10 Lexington County Council meeting, there was a public hearing and ordinance on the company’s additional location coming here. No one from the public spoke during the public comment section, but a representative from the company read a statement from Cardiff Products President Stew Cardiff.

“Our company specializes in producing high-quality aseptic beverages including plant-based drinks and juice products for the Canadian and U.S. markets,” as said in the statement.

According to beveragevisions.com, “Aseptic beverage manufacturing is a bottling technique that uses flash thermal treatment to sterilize the liquid product before aseptically filling into a previously sterilized container, inside of a sterilized environment.”

This technique intends to prolong shelf life.

A Canadian news source, The London Free Press, reported in 2021 on Cardiff’s fast growth, adding that the pandemic heightened the public’s interest in purchasing shelf-stable products.

In that same 2021 Canadian article, the company’s president is quoted saying, “This is a highly technical business very few take on. We’re seeing good uptake. We take on customers one at a time and expect continued growth in the next five years.”

Cardiff is joining a number of other businesses in the Saxe Gotha Industrial Park, including Nephron Pharmaceuticals, Nephron Nitrile, Dominion Energy, Amazon facilities and the future sites of Chick-fil-A Supply and Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, according to the county.

“We are very excited about the potential of this company coming to Lexington County,” Chairwoman Beth A. Carrigg said during the Dec. 10 county council meeting.
