Blessing boxes help feed needy

Two inspirations gave a young teenager named Audrey the idea to create Blessing Boxes. Audrey’s 1st inspiration came from her late father and the 2nd came to her while on a mission trip with her church. Her late father’s wishes were for no one to go hungry. While on the mission trip Audrey was able to obtain groceries for an elderly man who didn’t have many. Soon after her mission trip Audrey’s Blessing Boxes were made and placed in our Gilbert-Summit community.

Blessing Boxes are filled with nonperishable food, baby products, pet food, water and are for anyone who is in need. Due to the corona virus outbreak, job loss and social distancing, our community is in need. Blessing Boxes are large and easily recognized with glass doors. Currently two boxes are located in our community at Beulah United Methodist Church, and Restore Hope, next to the Gilbert-Summit IGA. Hope Binkley administrates the “Gilbert’s Blessing Boxes” Facebook page. She posts drop off days and times for volunteers to meet and drop off items. Any help is appreciated, she said. If you have items to donate you can do so anytime at 161 Beulah Church Road and at Restore Hope, 4810 Augusta Highway, Gilbert.

Gilbert artist Candace Thibeault has postponed art exhibits at Nicky’s Pizzeria and the Old Mill Brew Pub. She is offering weekly tutorials, pottery kits and art kits on Facebook. The tutorials are live art sessions and there will be some free items for children on her North-South Studio Facebook page.

Prior to our schools and preschools closing, children at Beulah Preschool celebrated Dr Seuss’s birthday. They wore green clothing to celebrate Green Eggs and Ham and had a Wacky Wednesday and wore PJ’s, and hats.

A big thank you to the Gilbert Primary School food service staff and the bus drivers who daily take lunches to students. Last week GPS Spirit Day was celebrated. GPS students were asked to wear their GPS tee shirts and share a picture online. Students also provided pictures of themselves reading a book with their pets or favorite toy.

Birthday wishes go to Nicholas Driver, Kristen Porter, Marcia Walters, Karen Woolsey, Jo Ellen Nicholson, Megan Allman, Olivia Morgan Price, Malory Best, Madison Stalvey, Davette Gilbert, Nicholas Best, James Hill and Jerry Davis.
