Bloemendaal has a grand vision for TopSpin

Posted

Randy Bloemendaal has coached now for almost 25 years and taking over the ownership of Topspin is new and exciting for him.

After coaching at all different levels from collegiate NAIA and NCAA Division I and II, he has seen many sides of tennis. He comes to Lexington with a skill set to take the ownership position of Topspin to the next level.

Once he understood the direction Corey Warner wanted to go with Topspin, he felt that it was an excellent fit for his family and a wonderful community for him to continue his coaching career in. Topspin is a unique club in that it is multi-faceted. There is Capital City Tennis Academy, the after-school program, as well as the beginner classes for kids and adults.

Bloemendaal strives to meet the needs of the Topspin members as well as develop the Academy. There is a lot happening at Topspin daily, such as leagues, clinics, family time, socializing, and friendly match play. Topspin hosts a variety of tournaments as well for kids, adults and leagues. Bloemendaal started the Capital City Tennis Academy in March 2019 with a couple of players. It has grown into a daily training academy with a thriving afterschool program. The athletes who attend the academy fulltime are enrolled in online classes, which allows them to devote their flexible time to training. Currently, the academy has grown to 8 full-time athletes. The academy originally started as a summer camp, eventually leading Bloemendaal to develop the afterschool program this past fall. Bloemendaal has received tremendous support from the families around the Lexington area. They believe in the program, are trusting in the process and have all seen their kids’ tennis skills improve tremendously.

Eventually, Bloemendaal wants to open his academy to all players. For now, his main focus is in Lexington and the state of South Carolina. He hopes to expand the membership to the general south, broader United States, and eventually invite international players to attend.

Because of his success over the years and experience traveling with so many great players, he has been fortunate enough to meet many people and have contacts through tennis spanning the globe.

For now, it is a matter of putting in the work and creating a solid foundation to grow on. He feels that in the future, Topspin will attract more great tennis players to the area.

He looks forward to growing the tennis academy and after school programs, involving more community members and their families and children.

Bloemendaal believes tennis is the best sport in the world.
