The first full week of the 2025 Blowfish Baseball season has come and gone, so let’s check in and see how the team is doing in the early part of the year.
Lexington County played in eight games last week, going an even 4-4 in those contests. That brings the team’s regular season record to 6-4 in Coastal Plains League play and 0-1-1 in non-league games.
The Blowfish started the week with a dominant 16-2 win at home against the Macon Bacon. The team scored five runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings, while the Bacon did not score a run after the third inning.
Blake Martin led the way with four RBIs, including a first-inning home run that scored three. Garrett Fulmer and Zander Buchan also had multiple RBIs, combining for five.
Austin Williamson started the game on the mound, pitching six innings and earning the win. Gavyn Seitz came on in relief during the final inning and pitched three strikeouts.
After the game against Macon, the Blowfish hit the road and traveled to Florence for a double-header against the Flamingos.
The teams played a double-header to make up for their previously scheduled matchup, which was canceled due to weather.
Lexington County’s offense stayed hot following its win over Macon, scoring 14 runs in a shutout against Florence in game one. Five different players finished with multiple RBIs.
Game two was a different story as the Blowfish’s offense cooled down, scoring just two runs in a 4-2 loss.
The Blowfish returned home for its next two matches. The team got its first look at the Boone Bigfoots this season and played Macon for the third time.
Lexington County won both of those games thanks to some steady hitting and strong pitching.
Boone was no match for the Blowfish in their meeting, losing in an 11-0 shutout.
It was actually a close game for most of the contest. Neither team scored until the Blowfish got one run on the board in the fifth inning. It wasn’t until the seventh when the Blowfish took control and ended the game.
The Blowfish scored 10 runs in the bottom of the seventh. Beau Hollins ended the game with a walk-off home run that scored three and triggered the 10-run rule.
Lexington County’s bats were not as active in the following game against Macon, but the team still did enough to earn a 7-3 win.
The Blowfish built a 3-0 lead before Macon got its first run on the board in the sixth inning. Lexington County responded in the bottom half by getting that run back and then some.
Down 6-1, the Bacon were able to score two more runs in the seventh to cut the lead to three, but those were the final runs Macon scored in the game.
Macon and Lexington County met again the next day, but this time in Macon. It was one of two games the Blowfish played that day, after half the team stayed home to play the Catawba Valley Stars.
Both Blowfish teams lost, with the home team being shut out 9-0, while the team in Macon lost a thrilling match.
Lexington County took an early lead thanks to a three-run second inning. However, the Bacon slowly pulled themselves back in one run at a time.
Bacon runs in the second, third and fourth innings evened the score at three apiece. The Blowfish retook the lead in the fifth inning with a run, but the Bacon scored a run of their own in the sixth to make it a 4-4 game.
Macon took the game over in the bottom of the seventh after scoring four runs to go up 8-4. The Blowfish tried to respond but came up short, with just one more run the rest of the way.
Lexington County refused to end the week on a low note and earned a scrappy win against the Flamingos back at home in the fish bowl. The Blowfish overcame a two-run deficit and scored the game’s last three runs to beat the Flamingos 3-2.
The Blowfish will be back on the field eight more times this week, with a game every day. Five of those games will be at home with plenty of fan promotions going on, including military appreciation night on Thursday, Star Wars night on Friday and “A League of Their Own” night on Saturday.
