Blowfish Pull Off Triple Play in Rain-Shortened Contest with Savannah

Posted

Late arriving wet weather once again put an early stoppage to a Lexington County Blowish home game Wednesday.

The game, halted after two innings with the Blowfish (in the Glowfish jerseys) leading Savannah 3-2, lasted long enough for fans in attendance to witness a baseball rarity.

The Bananas had runners on first and second with no outs. Livan Reinoso hit a groundball fielded by Billy Amick of W.W. King Academy who touched third base to force out Drew Yneista.

Amick then threw out Ty Jackson at second base, where Dutch Fork graduate Crosby Jones made the quick throw to first baseman Brock Vradenberg to get Reinoso and complete the triple play.

The momentum carried over into the bottom half of the inning. Jones reached on a single, advanced to second on an error and scored on a fielder's choice by Amick.

Brock Vradenburg followed with an RBI single to score Braylin Marine to put Lexington County up 2-0.

Savannah responded with an RBI single by David Meadows, who then stole second and scored off throwing errors by catcher Talmadge Lecroy and Marine at shortstop to tie the game.

Lecroy opened the bottom of the second inning with an infield single. He moved to second and scored on Amick's single to rightfield to put the Blowfish ahead.

Before the third inning began, the presence of lightning prompted the half of play. The continued sparks and increased rain prompted Blowfish co-owner to announce the postponement of the game .

It will resume in Lexington on July 21 starting at 5:05 p.m. prior to the regularly scheduled game between the Blowfish and Bananas.

Lexington County heads to Macon Friday and will play host to a doubleheader with Forest City Saturday as the team invites soldiers from Fort Jackson for the first time in two years.
