Blowfish Win 7th Straight in Comeback Against Forest City

Posted

For the second straight year, the Lexington County Blowfish have won seven consecutive games.

After rallying to tie Forest City, the Blowfish scored four runs in the 10th inning for the 7-5 victory.

The two winning streaks are the longest posted by Lexington County (9-4) since moving in 2015. More important, it kept 1 ½ games behind West Division leader and defending Coastal Plain League champion Savannah.

Forest City took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by Chipper McGinnis off starter Dylan Crowley. The Blowfish tied the game in the top of the third on an RBI single by Dutch Fork graduate Crosby Jones of The Citadel before the Owls picked up two runs in the bottom half of the inning off as Alex Khan hit an RBI single and scored off a wild pitch.

Crowley and relievers Austin Sandifer, Joseph Lafiora and Beau Ross combined for six straight scoreless innings to keep the game at 3-1.

An RBI single by W.W. King Academy graduate Billy Amick of Clemson cut the deficit to 3-2 in the sixth inning. After Jones led off the eight inning with a double, he advanced to third on a Braylin Marine putout and scored on Brock Vrandenburg’s game-tying RBI sacrifice fly.

The 10th inning started under CPL extra inning rules with runners on first and second. A pair of passed balls advanced the baserunners and allowed one to score after Jones reached base on a swung third strike.

Marine and Vradenburg followed with back-to-back RBI single and sacrifice fly by University of South Carolina outfielder Elijah Lambros extended the lead to 7-3.

The Owls got a run as Jacob Marcos beat a throw to Homeplate following a groundout and Will Samuelson RBI single with two outs. William Vergantino drew a walk, but Angus Pence was struck out by Cole Mathis to end the game.

Lexington County returns to action Tuesday at home against Wilmington.
