The body of David “Neil” Grantham, 36, was recovered from Lake Murray late on the morning of Nov. 6, per a spokesperson for the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

The department posted on Facebook that the body had been found, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

The department, with the aid of multiple other agencies, had been searching for Grantham since Oct. 26, when his family reported him missing and his boat was found abandoned in the lake.

“Mr. Grantham’s body was recovered a bit west of where search teams were focused in the days following his disappearance,” Capt. Adam Myrick, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department’s public information officer, told the Chronicle.

The search area was just west of Spence Island and in Eighteen Mile Creek, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detailed on Facebook in the days following Grantham’s disapperance.

Myrick said that a determination for the cause of death would come from the coroner’s office.

Per the department’s Facebook updates, they were notified by Grantham’s family he had been missing since getting on his boat at a marina off Highway 378 at about 3 a.m. on Oct. 26. No details about the circumstances leading up to Grantham taking out his boat have been revealed, beyond the fact he drove his truck to the marina.

Sheriff’s Department divers were called in as part of the search, which the department told the Chronicle proceeded on the water, in the air and on foot along shorelines and islands. Agencies who aided in the search included the state Law Enforcement Division and Department of Natural Resources and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
