The final few days of the spring sports regular season are flying by as teams in Lexington County sprint towards the finish.
With only a handful of games left, every win matters with postseason positioning on the line. As the wear and tear of the season hits, teams begin to heavily lean on their top stars to lead the charge.
This week’s Athlete of the Week winners showed out for their teams and put up big numbers, leading to multiple key wins.
Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek. To submit a nominee for consideration, email a photo and short bio to sports@lexingtonchronicle.com.
Brookland-Cayce’s Graham Parsons had his two best games of the season last week to help pull the Bearcats to the 0.500 mark.
Parsons had his first hat trick of the season in a win over Aiken. He scored three goals as the Bearcats secured an 8-0 shutout.
He followed that performance with another hat trick in the team’s 4-2 win over Gilbert. Parsons began this week on a three-game goal-scoring streak.
Those wins helped the Bearcats get to 0.500 this season, sitting at (9-9) overall and (6-5) in the region. These next few games will be big for the team as they can climb as high as third in the standings or fall to sixth.
Parsons’ play will be a determining factor in which way the team goes.
Chapin freshman Molly Holmes is making her presence felt in her first varsity season.
Holmes is third on the team in scoring with 25 goals through 13 games. Last week was a big one for her and the team, with Holmes scoring nine goals in three games.
Chapin is aiming to secure second in its region and is also ending the season with a handful of non-conference games to test itself before the playoffs.
Last week, the team played two region contests against Spring Valley and White Knoll and a friendly match against Aiken. The Eagles went 3-0 in that stretch, and Holmes was a big reason why.
She scored a goal in the team’s shutout win over Spring Valley, but she really shined in the next two games.
Holmes scored four goals in each of the games against White Knoll and Aiken. She earned her fifth and sixth hat tricks in the win and tied her season-high for single-game scoring.
