Can the beach improve your health?

Posted

I’ve always enjoyed the beach.

Growing up, our vacations were to Lake Murray or Myrtle Beach.

I enjoy waking up early, watching the waves roll in and drinking a cup of coffee.

I took a recent trip to Myrtle Beach.

My overall mood was so energized. My aches were less, and breathing was much simpler.

Do you feel the same when you visit the beach?

If so, you have the sea salt air to thank for that.

Did you know ocean air can help improve certain health ailments?

The salty air can:

• Thin mucus to improve lung function

• Cleanse your respiratory system

• Reduce coughing

• Decrease sinus pressure

• Stimulate neurotransmitters

• Encourage production of serotonin

• Restore the pH of your skin

• Help you fall asleep faster

Sea salt air has increased oxygen concentration, temperature differences, increased humidity, nutrients and ions.

The increased humidity helps clean out airways.

The negative ions that come from the ocean’s currents help absorb oxygen and balance serotonin.

It can also increase energy levels and decrease depression.

If you can’t get to the beach, create a similar effect by setting the humidity in your home to 30-45%.

Now visiting the beach isn’t just for tan lines. It’s a health benefit, too.
