To find if your computer can handle Windows 11, Microsoft has updated its hardware checker to make finding out for sure easier.

The minimum system requirements have been updated, too. Beyond the processor concerns, your PC must have 4 GB of memory, 64 GB of storage, UEFI secure boot, and TPM 2.0.

If that all sounds like gibberish to you, don’t worry! The PC Health Checker tool can help you check all the settings at once.

To install the PC Health Check tool:

• See what processor you have by opening your Windows start menu and typing ‘About’ to see what shows up next to ‘System Type’. It should include a 64-bit processor, 32-bit processor or an ARM version.

If it says 32-bit that’s bad news. Windows 11 requires a 64-bit processor. You can download the tool and check on the health of your device, but your hardware will not support Windows 11. The good news is Microsoft will still support Windows 10 even after the release of Windows 11. You have time to buy a new computer that can handle the more secure Windows 11.

• Visit https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowsinsiderpreviewpchealth . Download the tool by clicking your processor type.

• Install the PC Health Check Tool you downloaded by double-clicking on the file. Accept the license agreement and click ‘Install.’ When completed, click ‘Finish’.

• Open PC Health Check. Click the blue ‘Check now’ button in banner at the top.

If your PC can handle Windows 11, a pop-up will show a green checkmark icon. The message will read ‘This PC meets Windows 11 requirements’. If your PC does not it will tell you. You can click the ‘See all results’ button to see the different requirements. That will tell you what is missing.
