The Cayce Historical Museum will hold an event on Sept. 23 to celebrate the 300th Anniversary of Catesby’s Natural World of South Carolina.

John Meyers, a local Educator and historical Reenactor will tell the story of John Catesby and his work in SC at the Cayce Historical Museum Visitors Center at 6:30 pm.

Catesby was an English Naturalist who visited Florida, Jamaica, the Bahamas, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia gathering seeds and botanical specimens which he sent back to contacts in England. He introduced many plants to England for cultivation.

His research in South Carolina which started in 1722, led to his book, “Natural world of South Carolina”. It contains notes and beautiful drawings of birds and other living things in our state and local area.
