AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

Officials with Cayce Department of Public Safety worked quickly last week to locate George William Johnson, a man who had been missing for approximately 24 hours.

Johnson is a truck driver, who was last seen outside his tractor-trailer at the intersection of New State Road and Taylor Road in Cayce in the early morning hours of Thursday.

Johnson, who has family in the Fayetteville, NC area had not been in contact with anyone or his employer. He left behind his cell phone, tablet, dog and keys inside the tractor-trailer.

But on Friday morning, Cayce DPS Officers responded to an area near CMC Steel on New State Road after a security officer there made contact with Johnson around 1:30 a.m.. The Cayce Department of Public Safety has determined that there are no Public Safety concerns or indications of criminal activity in his disappearance.

Sergeant Evan Antley voiced his relief that Johnson was located. “We are thankful that the resolution of this case is a very good one,” he said.

Antley said the Cayce Department of Public Safety received an overwhelming amount of attention via local media outlets and social media followers after listing Johnson as missing. The Cayce DPS said it was grateful for and truly appreciates the media partners and citizens for their continued support.

The rainy weather broke over the weekend, but the Congaree River was still rising as of Monday. The Cayce Riverwalk and Timmerman Trail on the Cayce Riverwalk, and the section of Riverwalk from the H. Kelley Jones Park in the Riverland Park neighborhood had to be closed due to flooding. The river was expected to rise until about Wednesday.
