Chapin church fires teacher over her sexual orientation

Posted

Chapin Baptist Church has fired one of its daycare teachers.

Skye Moore said this was due to her relations with another woman.

She claimed Pastor Michael Hull, who has been at Chapin Baptist 7 months, knew about her relationship with her fiancé, Hannah Renee Hite.

Moore wrote, “I have been working at Chapin Baptist Child Development Center for 5 years, 3 of those 5 years I have been in this relationship.”

Moore said that the pastor said that she fulfilled her duties well and was a great teacher.

She said she was being let go due to “conflict of interest” because of her relationship with her fiancé.

“This seemed like something that would have either already happened or no longer be an issue,” she said.

The Southern Baptist Convention’s 1985 resolution on homosexuality states, “We affirm that while the Bible condemns such practice as sin, it also teaches forgiveness and transformation, upon repentance, through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Moore said all Baptist Daycare parents knew about her fiancé and nobody cared.

Moore believes her being fired is a discrimination issue.

The US Civil Rights Act does not protect sexual orientation, and South Carolina does not prohibit any discrimination on sexual orientation either, she said.

Churches and religious organizations do have a certain measure of protection because of their religious affiliation.

Moore said, “As for the outcome, I would love to finish out the year with my class of kids, but I would not consider it unless Michael Hull was gone.”

Church officials have refrained from comment.
