The Chapin Labor Day Festival began on Saturday, Aug. 30, and continued to Monday, Sept. 1, on Labor Day. The beautiful cooler weather brought out a record number of attendees.
Labor Day weekend kicked off on Saturday morning with the Fidelis 5K, hosted by Fidelis Family Retreat to benefit veterans and their families. Sunday night brought live country music with Boots on Beaufort, featuring an opening act from 6 to 8 p.m. and a headliner from 8 to 11 p.m. There were food trucks, vendors and plenty of space to relax and take in the music.
On Labor Day, the 15th Annual Classic Car Show, presented by the Columbia Classic Chevy Club and sponsored by The Auto Shop of Chapin, LLC, was held. The car show took place in the Beaufort Street parking lot next to Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church; this event featured prizes, trophies and a stunning display of classic cars. There were so many entries that many had to park their vintage cars in other designated areas.
The highlight of the weekend was the Chapin Labor Day Parade that had record entries. They marched through downtown Chapin. After the parade, the festival took over on Beaufort Street, Clark Street and Lexington Avenue with live music, food vendors, a train museum and many more events for everyone.
