Chapin unveils new mural downtown; dedication set for Dec. 9

Posted

A new mural titled “Talk of the Town,” painted by Alicia Leeke, a native South Carolinian, was inspired by local folklore and history in the Chapin and the Lake Murray community. It is located in downtown Chapin.

Community members plan to gather for a dedication ceremony celebrating the permanent artwork at The Shack in Chapin on Dec. 9.

The project is a partnership between the town and the Crooked Creek Art League, which aims to infuse the area with public art.

The new addition, which is weather-resistant, has been added to the Chapin Art Trail.

The Chapin Art Trail, according to the press release, provides an easy way to see local creativity. It’s a self-guided trail featuring public art pieces and galleries throughout the greater Chapin area.

“Play along by searching Chapin to find all the great art on display,” the press release reads. “Complete the online Scavenger Hunt Form and turn your completed form in online to be entered into a quarterly drawing to win prizes. Winners will be notified by email.”

The press release also says visitors can share photos of the mural using tags including #showusyourselfies, #AliciaLeekeContemporaryAmericanPainter and #bigfoot.
