The South Carolina American Legion championship finals will take place July 31-Aug. 1 at Segra Park in Columbia.
For defending state champion Chapin/Newberry Post 193/24 and Lexington Post 7, the road to Columbia will take a little longer. Both teams placed 3rd in their respective leagues and opened the playoffs with Best-of-3 Upper State series.
Chapin/Newberry started its series Monday on the road against Easley Post 52 and came away with a 6-1 victory. Trent Polly had a complete game effort for the win which put Post 193/24 in position to clinch at home Wednesday at New-berry College.
A deciding game, if necessary, would take place Thursday in Easley. The winner faces Greer Post 115 in a Best-of-5 series which begins Monday.
In the Lower State, Lexington Post 7 opened its Best-of-3 series Wednesday against Manning-Santee Post 68 at Lexington Sports Complex on Ballpark Road. Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday in Manning with a return trip to Lexington, if necessary, for Game 3.
The winner opens the Best-of-5 Lower State series Monday at Florence Post 1.
