Numerous families, students, friends and community members gathered at Chapin Town Hall to support the fourth-grade writers of Chapin Elementary.
The event featured the Chapin’s Voices Community Writer’s Workshop, where students presented their work and shared their writing process with the community.
Participants were able to interact in writing challenges, share stories and discuss ideas for future writing projects. They also left positive feedback on the students’ stories, which were displayed throughout the event.
This gathering emphasizes the value of community engagement in nurturing young writers.
This workshop is part of a larger project inspired by two Chapin Elementary teachers, Jennifer Layton and Nora Congialdi.
The educators aimed to encourage and empower their students to write while creating an audience for their stories.
According to the website, Chapin’s Voices Challenge encourages young writers, supports teachers and builds community.
In the challenge, residents can submit childhood stories, participate in workshops, read students’ writings and celebrate the students’ hard work.
In this challenge, Chapin community members have the chance to write and submit a story from their childhood to share with students, join a workshop and read the students’ writing along with celebrating them for their hard work.
This challenge helps young writers get inspiration from others while showing them support.
“This is just the kind of project we seek to support,” said Team Landolph’s executive director and former School District Five teacher Teresa Randolph in a press release. “We seek to grow community impact leaders through student-driven projects that connect and build the community. The students who were brave leaders to share their stories, and the teacher-leaders who worked hard each day to help them learn to communicate these pieces completely deserve to be celebrated.”
Team Landolph’s mission is to “empower teachers and students with the skills, networks, and resources to create a positive, lasting impact in their local community.”
The organization focuses on providing valuable skills that help students, learn, become leaders and collaborate.
