Chronicle Country teams vie for SC High School League titles

The SC High School League cross-country state championships will take Thursday and Friday at the Sandhill Research and Educational Center in Columbia.

It kicks off Thursday with the Class 3A girls at 9 am and the boys at 9:30 am. The Class 4A girls will take place at 11:30 pm, followed by the boys at noon.

There were 2 qualifiers at Crooked Creek Recreational Park in Chapin. The Irmo girls placed 4th in the Class 4A odd division, led by Carina Burdick finishing in 7th place.

The Irmo boys took 6th place, with David Williams finishing in 7th place in the odd division.

On Friday, the Class 5A finals will kick off at 9 am (girls) and 9:30 am (boys). The Lexington girls took 1st place in the team even division. The Lady Wildcats had 5 runners finish in the top 20 standings this past weekend at Sandhills.

Chapin placed 2nd to qualify in the girls’ even division, led by Abigail White’s 1st place finish. Dutch Fork also qualified in the girls’ even division with a 4th place finish.

In the boys’ division, Lexington and River Bluff qualified for the state finals. Led by Zander Jeffcoat’s 1st place finish, the Wildcats placed 2nd in the odd division.

The Gators placed 4th in the even division, led by Jacob Mangione’s 5th place finish.

At the Class A/2A qualifier, the Pelion girls’ finished in 4th place in the odd division to earn a spot in Friday’s 11:30 am final. Yessinia Castellanos of Pelion was the highest finisher in 3rd place.
