Church will ‘Worship on the Water’

Church Buzz

Pastor John Stirewalt at St. John’s Lutheran Church does things a little differently in order to reach out and engage his neighbors.

Like putting on a different kind of Christmas Eve Caroling service and a special service for veterans.

Now he has jumped into the lake. Well, he is using it to reach boaters and lake lovers.

St. Johns will host “Worship on the Water,” a brief prayer service with an uplifting message Saturday, August 3 and 10. The church is only 100 yards from the lake at Turners Point.

There is a pier that juts out into the water so boats can pull up close enough to see and hear everything. People can also drive to the church and walk down to sit on the grass or in chairs.

John’s message will come from the story of Jesus feeding his disciples at the side of a lake after his resurrection. It will be interdenominational, simple and open to everyone.

Why do a service like this? Stirewalt said that he grew up skiing and relaxing on a lake and loves it. He said the church offers a unique location for a service.

“Anyone can go to church, but how many can go in their boat? The water is relaxing, invigorating and can be calming. Combine those elements and you have a unique experience.” He added that for many the water reminds them of their own baptism.
