AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

West Columbia Mayor Bobby Horton presented a resolution from West Columbia City Council recognizing Dr. Shirley McClerklin-Motley for her 70th birthday. McClerklin-Motley was also recognized for her accomplishment of attaining her PhD in Social Work, and recent retirement. The presentation ceremony was held Aug. 3 at Brooklyn Baptist Church Banquet and Conference Center on Sunset Boulevard

How about a free back-to-school haircut? Mark your calendar for Aug. 18 when the cosmetology department at our Lexington 2 Innovation Center will partner with area barbers and hair stylists to offer free cuts and styles to start the new school year. It’s from 1 until 5 pm.

Saluda River Academy for the Arts thanked the Amazon West Columbia Fulfillment Center for all of the awesome school supplies Amazon donated to its students. Aug. 10 at Lexington High School.

The Cayce Public Safety Department is partnering with organizations and local business in a School Supply Drive. Mrs. Doris with La Estrella has already made a huge donation. The drive is will provide those in need with school supplies and the tools necessary to be successful in the classroom. Supplies will be collected Aug. 9 in the lobby of the Cayce Public Safety building.

The City of Cayce will hold a public input session for residents and businesses to provide their thoughts on the 2020 Cayce Comprehensive Plan. The meeting is Aug. 13, 6-8 pm at Steel Hands Brewing, 2350 Foreman Street in Cayce.
