Clemson offense is ‘best ever’ under Swinney

COLLEGE FOOTBALL CHRONICLE SPORTS CORRESPONDENT

Every week Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney steps to the podium for a postgame press conference, he’s able to list off another new set of offensive team records.

“Offensively, we played outstanding,” Swinney said. “We had 5 touchdown drives of at least 75 yards. Our communication was really good up front. We had no turnovers and that’s 3 games in a row. We had a lot of great individual plays. (Quarterback Trevor Lawrence) continues to play at a high level as well as our offensive line.”

When asked where the 2019 team ranks in school history, Swinney stated that this group is easily the most dynamic one he’s ever coached. He referenced having 5 straight games with 200-plus yards for the 1st time in his tenure along with a team-first scoring 45 or more points 5 games in a row.

Swinney believes that the Tigers’ success starts upfront as it’s “leading the way” on offense.

He also praised his co-offensive coordinators Tony Elliott and Jeff Scott for the player preparation.

“Just really proud of what these guys have been able to do,” he said. “Tony and Jeff have done an awesome job, the rest of our staff and so I think that we need to continue to work hard,” Swinney said. “We want to keep it up and have a strong finish. But I’m super proud of them.

Clemson has already clinched the ACC Atlantic Division title. It faces Wake Forest on the road at 3:30 pm Saturday on ABC. The game can also be heard on WCOS (1400 AM) and on the TuneIn Radio phone app.
