Clemson picked 1st in ACC preseason poll

Posted

Another Atlantic Coast Conference football title is what was predicted for the Clemson University program.

The Tigers were selected as the likely ACC champion in the media preseason poll for the 4th consecutive season and the 7th time in the last 9 years.

They were the overwhelming choice according to a poll of media voters. They received 125 out of 147 votes and were also chosen as the likely Atlantic Division champion.

Clemson, which posted a 10-2 record last season while earning a postseason playoff berth for the 6th consecutive year, were also chosen as the likely Atlantic Division winners. It led the way with 146 first-place votes and 1,028 total points.

NC State, which was tabbed as the likely 2nd-place finisher, picked up the remaining 1st-place vote while accumulating 804 points.

North Carolina was picked to finish atop the Coastal Division following an 8-win 2020 season that culminated with the program’s 1st-ever berth in the Orange Bowl. The Tar Heels picked up 16 votes to win the ACC title, followed by Miami with 3 and Georgia Tech, NC State and Virginia with 1 each.

The Atlantic and Coastal Division winners will meet in the 2021 ACC Football title game Game on Dec. 4, at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium.
