Clues missed in child’s death

Faye Swetlik’s body believed hidden in ordinary laundry bag

Cayce public safety officials have closed their investigation into Faye Swetlik’s kidnapping and killing.

Their investigative report reveals a glaring oversight.

In 4 days of searching for the missing 6-year-old in February a year ago, investigators went into her killer’s Churchill Heights townhouse more than once.

During the search, they spotted a laundry bag containing Faye’s body but did not open it.

On Feb. 10, 2020, Faye’s mother reported her missing setting off a rigorous neighborhood search with a helicopter and search dogs.

Police monitored traffic in and out of Churchill Heights to keep non-residents out.

They finally found:

• Faye’s body in the woods where her abductor Coty Taylor had taken her.

• Taylor’s body outside his 602 Piccadilly Square townhouse, dead by suicide.

On their 1st visit, Taylor was not there when investigators arrived at 11:15 am.

His roommate told police Taylor was at work when Faye disappeared the afternoon of Feb. 10 and allowed investigators to search the home.

Investigators found the black laundry bag in a closet beneath the stairs.

The laundry bag and the interview with the roommate were recorded on police body camera.

Faye’s body was likely in the laundry bag, according to public safety documents.

“There was nothing overtly suspicious regarding the laundry bag and no evidence that made 602 Piccadilly Square notable from other residences,” the report reads.

When investigators returned to Taylor’s home about 5:45 pm, he told them he was asleep when Faye disappeared.

He let investigators search the house but they again found nothing.

Faye’s body was found the next morning in nearby woods. After Taylor was found dead, police searched his house again and found the laundry bag in an exterior storage room with Taylor’s and Faye’s DNA inside.
