College Golf Fellowship visited Lexington last weekend.

Several local colleges were represented including Francis Marion, Furman, Coastal Carolina, Augusta University and the University of South Carolina.

College Golf Fellowship is a sibling of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and serves to educate young men and women on the Christian faith.

CGF currently has 20 staff nationwide that work with college golfers, coaches and professional golfers.

“Wesley and Elizabeth Bryan were wonderful hosts and we are very grateful for their hospitality,” commented Korky Kemp of College Golf Fellowship. “We have PGA tour players from all over the country that serve as hosts to college athletes. Jonathon Byrd, Justin Leonard, Web Simpson and many more will offer up their homes and serve as host for the young collegiate athletes. We build into kids biblical principles such as helping others and public service.”

The entire group of over 20 college players visited a local government housing community and introduced golf to dozens of children using SNAG Golf equipment donated by the SCJGA.

“Our theme of the Week was “Who is Jesus and why does it matter?”, explained Kemp, who played collegiately at North Carolina State.

Ben Martin, who graduated from Clemson came down to share with the group.

“Ben spoke on how life is deeper than just making birdies and there is a God that loves them and wants to be in a close relationship with them by faith in Jesus Christ,” continued Kemp.

The host family, Wesley and Elizabeth Bryan, had a topic they delivered.

“Wesley and Elizabeth did a great job and spoke to the group about dating relationships,” continued the enthusiastic Kemp.

Golden Hills hosted the 20-plus college players, with PGA TOUR players Wesley Bryan and Ben Martin. Afterwards, they went tubing on the Saluda River. On Saturday, they played flag football, basketball, ping-pong, and baseball.

While the recreation was fun, the college athletes got a “real life preview” on the idea of utilizing their gifts to benefit community.

Timberlake Country Club, Riverside Golf Center, the Irmo-Chapin Recreation Commission, Koosa Golf and several other local golf entities and professionals along with volunteers are teaming up together to present summer golf youth and family options. Visit www.growgolfnow.com for more information.
