Grace Lutheran Church invited the community to the joint Thanksgiving service Tuesday, November 20, at 7 pm. The Rev. John Stirewalt, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran, was the guest speaker. This was a communion service with light refreshments served afterwards. Joint churches included St. John’s Lutheran, St. Matthew’s Lutheran and St. Paul’s Lutheran. Grace Lutheran Church is at 401 Main Street in Gilbert.
Hollow Creek Community Club members celebrated Thanksgiving at their monthly meeting. Members enjoyed a meal provided by the 2018 officers. They are Timmy Koon, president; Jimmy Lucas, vice president; Mary Ann Sease, secretary; Dale Swygert, treasurer; and Trustees Monroe Fulmer and O’Neal Sessions. and Dan Tin-man, and Frank Whittle. After the meal, Wendell Evans gave the November devotions. The members made plans for their annual Christmas fruit baskets and Poinsettia deliveries for home-bound seniors in the community. W.C. Miller, Charlotte Swygert, Bryn Sarvis and Lila Koon were recognized as having birthdays in November. The Hollow Creek Community Center meets the second Thursday of each month at 7 pm. The club house is located at 2701 Priceville Road in Gilbert.
Gilbert Scouts Pack
60 will celebrate an early Thanksgiving at the November meeting with a Thanksgiving meal for Scouts and their families. Each family will be bringing a covered dish. For entertainment, the Bear Den leaders will put on a carnival after the meal. This week, the Scouts assisted with the Veterans’ Day program at Gilbert Primary School.
If you have leftover pumpkins or gourds from Thanksgiving, Cotton Branch Animal Sanctuary will gladly accept them for the pigs at the farm. Drop off your pumpkins at the sanctuary between 10 am and 6 pm on November 24 and 25. Pumpkins cannot be accepted if they had a candle burned inside them, are already carved, or used without kid-friendly non-toxic paint, or covered in a flame retardant.
