Cook holiday meals with savory herbs

AROUND LEXINGTON COUNTY

Want to try something different for your holiday meal? Why not try cooking with herbs for tasty and delicious flavor. And, as an added benefit, it is healthy.

Beverly Kleckley and Jeannie Hartley demonstrated this at their “Herbal Cooking Hints for the Holidays” program last Thursday.

Held at Shiloh United Methodist’s “Lunch and Learn” series, they prepared and served tastings for everyone to sample.

For appetizers, they had a Brussels Sprout Dip served with healthy veggie sticks and spiced nuts.

The main course was an oven-baked Cornish hen flavored with lime and herbs.

Nutritious sweet potatoes were served in rounds with peeling left on.

Slices of bread accompanied the meal, along with varieties of herb butter. A sharing cookie completed the tastings. The pan-sized cookie was broken into pieces for everyone to share and savor the flavors of herbal usage.

Donna Griffin recognized and surprised Candy Dawkins on her birthday (Nov. 13).

The next Lunch and Learn, “Got Travel Agent?” will be December 11. Call 359-7586 for information.

Do you have a Real ID? According to featured speaker Kevin Shwedo, SCDOT Executive Director, you will need one. He told members of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce at the last breakfast meeting that beginning Oct. 1, 2020, your SC Driver’s License must have a gold star to show it is a Real ID.

You will need this to board a commercial flight, enter a secure federal building or visit a military installation.

He encouraged everyone to get theirs now or face long lines in the future.

The meeting was led by President Otis Rawl and chamber Chair Troy Simpson. The Rev. Pat Riddle of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church opened the meeting with prayer.

Amy Lasley of TD Bank was named Ambassador of the Month.
