The man found dead outside a West Columbia area residence on Feb. 8 has been identified as Hoyt Mitchell Jennings, 47, of Columbia, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

A press release states the incident occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m. in the 100 block of Villa Court.

Jennings was pronounced dead at the scene due to a gunshot wound to the upper body.

In a statement posted to Facebook, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said there is no ongoing threat to the public. 

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and Lexington County Coroner's Office are investigating.
