Coroner IDs pedestrian killed in Labor Day crash

Officials have identified an Easley man as the victim in a predawn Labor Day crash where a driver struck and killed a pedestrian on Interstate 26 in Lexington County.

Robert Edward Dove, 42, of Easley, was walking in the road when a vehicle struck him near mile marker 105 on I-26 West outside Columbia, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher announced Wednesday, Sept. 9.

The wreck happened around 4:10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 7.

“Mr. Dove was pronounced dead on scene due to the injuries sustained in the collision,” the Lexington County Coroner’s Office said in a news release. “The driver of the vehicle that struck Mr. Dove remained on scene and was not injured.”

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
