Council honors American Legion

AROUND LEXINGTON COUNTY

American Legion Post 7 and Auxiliary was honored August 27 by Lexington County Council on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.

Post 7 Commander David Griffith and Murray Price, USAF World War II and the Post’s oldest member, accepted the county resolution from Chairman Whetstone.

The Legion and Auxiliary were honored “for their decades if outstanding work in promoting patriotism, care for veterans and their families, the integrity of the American way of life

Also attending from Post 7 were Dot Tun-stall, Bing and Faye Bingenheimer, Mary Hazelton, Marge Carter, Doris Frye, Doris Reynolds, Freddie Brock, Bernie Burnett, Linda Roemer, Wayne Caughman, and Linda Griffith.

Lexington High School’s Girls Golf Team and Girls Softball Team were honored for their championships. Councilman Darrell Hudson presented the resolutions. Lexington is very proud of the honor and recognition they have brought to our town.

Principal Melissa Rawl was there to cheer their accomplishments.

Friends of the Lexington County Museum met for the monthly meeting Aug. 19. Dan Koon has moved up to assume the duties of president. Commission member Stanley Rikard reported total visitors in June were 1,117 and in July 1,259. Rikard also reported the garden is coming along really good despite hot, dry weather.

The museum plans to celebrate its 50th anniversary February 22 at the Lexington Municipal complex. The Great Society Band will provide dance music.

A Haunted History Tour is planned for Oct. 17-18, with tours each night beginning at 7, 8 and 9 pm.

Anne Bull and Ellen Stewart send word that the 10:10 Bridge After School program begins Sept. 17. Programming runs throughout the school year Tuesday through Thursday, 2-5 pm. This ministry is committed to providing spiritual, emotional, physical, social and academic support for elementary school children with a diverse set of needs. The children receive a snack, recreation time and academic assistance. The program is an outreach of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church.

Don’t forget Lunch and Learn starts Sept. 10 at noon at Shiloh United Methodist Church. RSVP to Donna and Jerry Griffin at 359-7586. This week’s program is “Gardening Fun.”
