Ralph and Sybil Eloise Jarrells of West Columbia were honored in Los Angeles by President Trump with a Volunteer Service Award.

In addition to drilling 22 wells in Togo, Africa, working with orphans in Uganda and supporting youth baseball in Belize, the Jarrells are active in the USA United Nations Assn., animal welfare and help for the homeless.

The St. Lazarus Relief Fund nominated them.

“We feel honored, but we do not want the focus on us,” Jarrells said.

With the help of the Lexington County Blowfish and the Recreation and Aging Commission, they have brought baseball equipment to young people in Belize.

They aim to return to Belize May 8 for the 1st game of the Sybil Little League, the name a Belize pastor has given it.
