Crossroads band wins championship

Congratulations to the 6th graders at Crossroads Intermediate School for their musical excellence.  They competed at Music Festival  USA in Orlando, FL, May 18 against other middle school students in grades six through eight.  Crossroads Intermediate School Band placed first and was named grand champion in the middle school division. The band’s percussion ensemble finished in first place, as well.  A big congratulations to the band director, Tom Henke, for a job well done!

Homeschooling is the fastest growing segment of education in the United States. Families choose to home school after seeing the benefits of academic excellence, positive socialization, development of strong character, and family unity. Homeschool education targets a child’s learning style, aptitudes, and interests. A free “Getting Started” homeschool workshop will be June 6 at 7 pm at 613 St. Andrews Rd. Summertime means more free time! The Irmo and Chapin Libraries are starting their Summer Reading programs. Irmo’s blast off for reading is June 4, 4-6 pm, and Chapin’s is June 6, 5-7 pm. Games, crafts, snacks, and books will be there to help start the summer off right by reading!

D-day was a tragic day for 6,603 American families who lost loved ones on the shores of Normandy. The SC Military Museum is hosting the 75th anniversary of D-Day June 8, 8:30-4 pm. You will get to see WWII uniforms, firearms, re-enactors, armored vehicles, German tanks and more. WWII veterans will be there to meet and greet visitors. The free event will be held at 1 National Guard Road, Columbia. The Remembrance ceremony will be at 10 am.

Pawmetto Lifeline needs  your help. They need foster pet families!  Fostering a pet for one week will give dogs and cats a chance of life and get them off death row.  Palmetto’s foster program provides training, food, vet care, and 24/7 support.  Visit their www.pawmettolifeline.org for information.
