Cycles roar for scholarships

The American Legion Riders of South Carolina will conduct the 9th annual American Legion Legacy Ride April 25-26. This ride will be approximately 600 miles in 2 days. There are 20 Motorcycle Chapters from various posts across the state, including Chapter 101 from Post 101 in Pelion. Each Chapter will accept taxdeductible donations for individuals or a group.

The ride begins in Walterboro in groups of 15 to 20 bikes, with 5 minute intervals between groups. They should pass through Pelion between 10:40 am and noon April 25. We encourage local residents to participate by standing along the route in Pelion (Hwy. 178) and waving the American flag. If you would like to donate, contact Post Commander Mark Bays at 803-931-2355, or District Commander David Mills. Donations benefit scholarships to students of fallen or wounded military personnel.

Congratulations to Sarah Nichole Burr who on the dean's list at Jacksonville University. Sarah is the granddaughter of Malcolm and Annette Lucas.

With the current coronavirus situation, all schools are closed, as are the library and senior center. The library will reopen to the public April 20 but will not host any programs until after May 1. The IGA is currently open and the local restaurants have curbside pick up or home delivery. Local church services are also cancelled.

My niece’s grandsons recently adopted a pig, named Sausage who decided to escape during his first night with his new family. The next morning, Sausage was captured and reunited with his family with the help of Corporal Pifer of the Lexington County Sheriff's Department. Cute little pig now has a more secure place to call home
