AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

Some unique and decorative paintings were found in the upper corners of the Court Room of the old Brookland City Hall and Fire Station. It’s on Center Street and was built in 1925.

The City of West Columbia, on its Face-book page, released photos of the paintings and local residents began to comment.

Scott Linaberry said: “I think they were chimney flue access covers for cleaning oil burning furnaces.”

Hannah Bauchat said: “I have one in my house on D Avenue, it allegedly covers an old wood stove that’s now buried into the wall.”

The old city hall is the future home of Savage Craft Ale Works in West Columbia’s River District. The brewery is scheduled to open in May of 2020 in the historic building at 430 Center Street.

Emergency responders in Cayce were busy last week.

Cayce Public Safety personnel were on the scene of a vehicle collision on Airport Boulevard at Stratford Road, last Monday. All inbound and outbound traffic on Airport Blvd was stopped until the site was cleared.

Crews were also on the scene of a motor vehicle collision at Charleston Highway and Old Dunbar Road Monday afternoon. Traffic was slowed until crews cleared the scene.

Some road upgrades are taking place between West Columbia and Lexington.

On June 28, the I-20 Westbound Exit Ramp 61 was closed from midnight Friday until 4 a.m. for construction, part of the Ginny Lane/ I-20 Exit Ramp Improvement.

The Exit ramp is between Lexington and West Columbia, and feeds traffic onto US 378 or Sunset Boulevard, near Saluda Pointe.
